Enjoy a half day gold rush 4WD adventure through the alpine scenery of Queenstown into Macetown, now a Department of Conservation reserve.
From Queenstown this true 4x4 adventure stops first in picturesque Arrowtown, home to the historic Chinese Settlers Village. For Lord of the Rings fans there is also a visit to the film location for the 'Ford of Bruinen', featured in The Fellowship of the Ring.
The old gold mining town of Macetown is reached via a steep, rugged road and some 25 river crossings, which gives you an indication of its remoteness. Your guide will share their passion for the region and impart a story of hardship and exhilaration and the desire for gold which burned brightly for so long. The town was long abandoned but still evokes a real sense of history.
Enroute back to Queenstown see if you can ignite your own desire for the gold rush as you try your luck panning for gold in the Arrowtown River.
