Perhaps the perfect safari camp, delightful Nsolo Camp is sited under trees on the riverbank beside the seasonal Luwi River, which is mostly a sandy river bed with a few pools of water during the main safari season. However, there is a permanent water source throughout the year in front of camp and so it is an important location for wildlife that can be viewed from the deck outside your room.
Nsolo Camp is run by Norman Carr Safaris, who first initiated walking safaris in South Luangwa. This 5 roomed camp is remote, in a wildlife rich area and thus perfect when included in a walking safari. However game drives and river bed sleepouts are also a highlight. Wild dogs are common in the area and the thrill of being with them by vehicle as they hunt is a very memorable experience. Equally memorable is a night spent under the stars in a simple sleepout and this is perhaps best enjoyed as a staging point on a walking safari between Nsolo and one of the other sister camps, Kakuli or Luwi.
The rooms are spacious suites slightly raised above ground level with wooden floors, reed walls and thatched roof, they have an outside bathroom with shower as well as a seating deck. Similarly styled is the open-sided lounge bar and dining area. In our opinion Nsolo rates as a great camp because of its simplicity that retains style, and its relaxed, friendly atmosphere which fits very well with the location.
