Large and luxurious describe many aspects of Anazbezi Camp. This very stylish tented camp has 11 spacious tents and one family suite. Each has their own lounge, deck with plunge pool, as well as indoor and outdoor bathrooms. In muted colours of the bush the décor and tents themselves fit seamlessly into their location overlooking the Zambezi River.
The camp is located in the eastern sector of Lower Zambezi National Park on the site of the old Ana Tree Lodge that was used as a retreat by British colonialists. Anabezi spreads along a bank a little inland from the waterfront with the open plan main pool, lounge and dining area placed centrally. All is interconnected by stilted wooden walkways.
Anabezi is a refined safari camp, its staff friendly and attentive and the cuisine very good. It is the ease of moving around, finding places to rest, deciding whether to take another activity or just kick-back that make this a very enjoyable place to relax.
Guiding is good for the different activities on offer and will suit those who have bounced around in the back of vehicles in other national parks, making Anabezi a good place to end a tailor made safari. The pace just seems a little more relaxed here, possibly due to the calming nature of the nearby water.
Besides water based safari activities such as canoeing, which is the classic thing to do on the Lower Zambezi, fishing for tiger fish or just enjoying boating on the river; the land offers a good diversity of drives, night drives, bush walks etc. and of course a wide range of species too. We enjoyed good leopard sightings in the area when we visited. Winterthorn or Ana trees make up much of the woodland close by although there is a transition into mopane forest just a couple of kilometres away. These habitats ensure the diversity of wildlife and there are over 500 species of bird recorded too.
