Bamurru Plains is a luxury bush camp on the edge of the Mary River floodplains just inland from the coast and only 20 min flight or 3h drive from Darwin and a short transfer from Kakadu National Park. There are 9 specious tented chalets set under gum trees on the edge of the waters. Each has clear screens to allow you to enjoy the view and to take in the morning chorus. In fact the chorus with corellas and cockatoos can be at any time of the day!
Camp is incredibly comfortable with luxurious beds, polished floors, spacious public areas including an outdoor infinty pool on the deck. All this is backed by outstanding food and terrific professional guiding as would be expected in the best safari camps. However, the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly and the experience intense.
Out on the floodplains up to 1 million magpie geese arrive each year to breed, these together with a wide variety of other bird species are discovered by airboat along with buffalo and some pretty big crocodiles that reside in the area. The airboats also take you on a safari across the reedbeds to discover lagoons among the paperbark trees and beautiful flowering waterlilies. Afternoon and dry season safaris may be by 4x4 vehicle on land in search of wallabies and other wildlife.
Your stay at Bamurru Plains contributes to Australian Wildlife Conservancy, an organisation protecting endangered Australian species.
